Levi’s new jeans are made from old, worn-out jeans

Levi’s new jeans—a winner of ‘Fast Company’s’ 2021 World Changing Ideas Awards—are made with Circulose, a new material made from recycled denim. Growing the cotton for a typical pair of jeans uses 2,500 liters of water, often in areas facing water shortages. And when the jeans wear out, they’ll probably end up in a landfill, like most clothing. Using recycled material shrinks that total environmental footprint, but traditional fabric recycling can lower the quality of the next iteration of the clothing. Unilever’s new nano-factories fit in a shipping container, so they can go anywhere in the world

Designed to make small batches of products with local materials, the consumer goods giant hopes the new factories can cut down on their footprint by allowing them to make products closer to the source. Inside a 40-foot shipping container parked in the Dutch town of Wageningen, the global base for Unilever’s food and refreshment business, there will soon be a fully-functioning production line for the consumer goods company’s liquid bouillon. At its Spring Loaded event held virtually on Tuesday, the very first thing Apple announced was a new Apple Card feature called Apple Card Family.
