We have the technology to fight manipulated images and videos. It’s time to use it.

Here’s what it will take to combat visual mis- and disinformation online, according to the CEO of image verification platform Truepic and an advisor to the company. Although the U.S. Presidential election has passed, we can expect that visual mis- and dis-information will continue to pull and tear at our social fabric. In the last weeks of the Presidential campaign we saw manipulated video of Joe Biden purportedly greeting the wrong state and altered images of prominent celebrities supposedly wearing “Trump 2020” hats. More sophisticated uses of synthetic media were used to generate a fabricated identity of an alleged security investigator and propel a fraudulent report on Hunter Biden. Although these efforts were eventually debunked, they garnered national attention and were seen by hundreds of thousands of potential voters. It is clear that manipulated media is being weaponized to amplify misleading content and polarize our society. Read Full Story

Breaking down President Biden’s data-driven social media strategy

{ object.primary_image.title }}

Just days before the 2020 Presidential election, we reported that Joe Biden was outperforming Donald Trump on social media by certain key metrics. Despite the penetrating volume of Trump’s Twitter feed, Biden was earning more interactions per tweet, and far more interactions per user. But this wasn’t a social media campaign based on flair and instinct: it was tightly driven by social analytics. No-one can better explain how that worked in practice than Sarah Galvez, Director of Social Media and Audience Development at Biden for President. Sarah J. Galvez “I started out like many millennials as a consumer of the internet and social media,” Galvez told us. “I think I started my Twitter account in a computer lab while I was in high …

How To Use 3D Photos On Facebook For Your Business

{ object.primary_image.title }}

Changing consumer behavior and evolving tech platforms require us to uncover new strategies to reach our customers. One trend that presents just such an opportunity is 3D photos on Facebook. Partially influenced by 3D technologies and mixed reality resurgence, 3D photos can help you capture attention and tell your brand’s story on Facebook. What are the 3D Photos on Facebook? 3D photos allow you to view an image through three dimensions instead of two, so you can see things slightly around an image that would otherwise be out of view in a standard 2D photo. For example, in a 3D photo of a person looking into the camera, you’ll see parts of the sides of their face, and slightly above their head. 3D photos allow you to explore an image by scrolling, tilting, and panning using your mouse or trackpad. One important note: 3D photos are not to be confused …

{ object.primary_image.title }}

But this new technology doesn’t just threaten our present discourse. Soon, AI-generated synthetic media may reach into the past and sow doubt into the authenticity of historical events, potentially destroying the credibility of records left behind in our present digital era. Assemble the shadow cabinet: How Joe Biden can beat Trump at his own reality TV game

{ object.primary_image.title }}

With a little bit of creativity, Biden can pioneer an entirely new kind of remote campaign—a savvy twist on microtargeting for the social media era. Maybe none of this matters. Maybe the presidential election will be solely determined by how Donald Trump handles the coronavirus, and the end result will be the same whether Joe Biden runs an effective, vigorous campaign or goes on vacation for the next six months. But if you’re a Democrat, hiding out in your basement doesn’t feel like a winning strategy. Biden’s home videos and avuncular podcast, “Here’s the Deal,” aren’t exactly catching fire. Meanwhile Trump is dominating the airwaves, using daily coronavirus briefings to broadcast political rallies from the White House lawn. Team Biden needs to amp up the X factor if it wants to recapture the public’s waning attention. Read Full Story
