This extraordinary AI has stunned computer scientists with its writing ability

The GPT-3 program can write articles, produce code, and compose poetry. Seven years ago, my student and I at Penn State built a bot to write a Wikipedia article on Bengali Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s play “ Chitra .” First it culled information about “Chitra” from the internet. Then it looked at existing Wikipedia entries to learn the structure for a standard Wikipedia article. Finally, it summarized the information it had retrieved from the internet to write and publish the first version of the entry. Read Full Story

How to Turn One Piece of Content into Multiple for SEO

{ object.primary_image.title }}

Posted by liambbarnes As most SEO specialists have learned, you must create quality content to grow organically. The same thing can be said for businesses that are building a social media presence or a new newsletter following. But as people consume more and more content each day, they become less receptive to basic content that doesn't provide a new perspective. To counter this issue, you must make sure that your content is native to each platform you publish on. However, that doesn’t mean that you need to start from scratch. There's a way to take one content idea and turn it into multiple, which can scale across multiple platforms and improve your brand awareness. It takes time to write a brand-new blog article every day, especially when you're an in-house team with a low number of resources and budget. The biggest challenge here is building a content strategy at scale. …

How to Find Your Target Audience

{ object.primary_image.title }}

When I first started out in marketing, I thought traffic was everything. I wanted to be as big as companies like HubSpot . Just look at the image above and you’ll see how many visitors they are getting. They generate 29.61 million visitors a month from 11.74 million people. And those visitors produce roughly 10 billion dollars of market cap . Now, let’s look at NeilPatel.com. Can you guess how many visitors I’m getting each month? I’m generating roughly 8.717 million visitors a month from 3.616 million people. When you look at it from a unique visitor perspective, HubSpot is getting 3.24 times more unique visitors than me. So, in theory, I should be worth roughly 3 times less than them, right? Well, technically I’m not even worth 1/10th of them. Not even close. Why is that? It’s because I didn’t go after the right target audience, while HubSpot did. …

The 6 Step Guide to Writing Listicle Content

{ object.primary_image.title }}

Regardless of how you feel about listicles, you’ve probably read a number of them. Listicles help present a large amount of information in small, easy-to-scan, numbered sections. List posts can cover all kinds of topics, from the more educational posts on HubSpot like “How to Create a Cinemagraph in 7 Easy Steps” to the clickbaity Buzzfeed lists like “23 People You Seriously Won’t Believe Actually Exist.” In this article, I’ll guide you through six steps to create an effective list post. I’ll also explain why these posts are so popular and why they are critical to a successful content marketing strategy. What is a Listicle? Simply put, it’s an article made up of a list of items or ideas. Despite what you might think, Buzzfeed didn’t invent listicle content. It’s been around for centuries. Fifteen Years Is a Long Time in SEO

{ object.primary_image.title }}

Posted by willcritchlow I’ve been in an introspective mood lately. Earlier this year (15 years after starting Distilled in 2005), we spun out a new company called SearchPilot to focus on our SEO A/B testing and meta-CMS technology (previously known as Distilled ODN), and merged the consulting and conferences part of the business with Brainlabs . I’m now CEO of SearchPilot (which is primarily owned by the shareholders of Distilled), and am also SEO Partner at Brainlabs, so… I’m sorry everyone, but I’m very much staying in the SEO industry. As such, it feels a bit like the end of a chapter for me rather than the end of the book, but it has still had me looking back over what’s changed and what hasn’t over the last 15 years I’ve been in the industry. I can’t lay claim to being one of the first generation of SEO experts, but …
