The developer confab was to be the first major event of 2020’s developer-conference season—assuming there’s one at all this year. It turns out that Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress was not the only big tech event to fall victim to the coronavirus . Facebook has canceled the 2020 edition of its F8 developer conference , citing “the growing concerns around COVID-19.” The event—which was to take place on May 5 and 6 in San Jose, California—will be replaced with live-streamed content, local meetings, and other elements less susceptible to risks and fears associated with the coronavirus . As tech giants cancel their developer events in favor of virtual education, more people might get access to the information they need. Is 2020 going to be the year all of Big Tech’s developer conferences got canceled? It’s looking like it might well be. In the wake of the coronavirus, the in-person versions of Facebook’s F8 and Google’s Cloud Next have been canceled and are set to be replaced with virtual events that will be streamed to participants. The coronavirus has put in-person leadership training on hold, but the move to all-digital sessions may actually be better—if done right. Across the board, in-person leadership development events at organizations and universities are being cancelled because of the coronavirus crisis. For many people on both sides—giving and receiving training—these communal sessions were the preferred way to get to the next level. For the rest of the year, at least, at-home digital courses will have to suffice. I suspect that once people learn how to leverage the digital world for learning, they won’t want to go back to how it was. Read Full Story
