Surprise! Male and female brains are the same

{ object.primary_image.title }}

“Sex differences in the brain are tiny and inconsistent, once individuals’ head size is accounted for,” says new research. If you thought that the brains of men and women are inexorably different, you are wrong. “The truth is that there are no universal brain features that differ between the sexes,” noted Lise Eliot, a neuroscientist at Rosalind Franklin University, in a news release. “The brain is like other organs, such as the heart and kidneys, which are similar enough to be transplanted between women and men quite successfully,” Read Full Story

{ object.primary_image.title }}

Surprising study pinpoints why women face a double whammy of age and sex discrimination at work

{ object.primary_image.title }}

Aging women face both sex discrimination and age discrimination, which is called “intersectional discrimination.” Women continue to earn roughly 77 cents on the dollar when compared to men. But a new paper in Labour shows that as women age, they face a double whammy of sex and age discrimination from which laws do not adequately protect them. The result is that many older women who want to continue working are not even in the workforce. Read Full Story

Study: Female doctors spend more time with patients, but get paid less than men

{ object.primary_image.title }}

The medical industry agrees that the more time doctors spend with patients, the better the health outcomes. But that way of working is costly for female primary care doctors. Differences in how women and men get paid in the U.S. abound across sectors . Rihanna is building a lingerie empire to rival Victoria’s Secret

{ object.primary_image.title }}

Victoria’s Secret was built from the male gaze. Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty is all about what women want. And it’s about to get even bigger. Savage X Fenty, Rihanna’s two-year-old online lingerie brand, makes Victoria’s Secret look tame. At Savage’s annual fashion show, women strut out in crotchless teddies, sheer bras, and heart-shaped nipple pasties to the pulsating music of Travis Scott and Lizzo. Understanding the problem is the first step. To get a sense of conditions within the SEO community, we asked people to take our Diversity and Inclusion in SEO survey as part of our ongoing project to study the state of SEO . These are important voices that need to be heard, but as we analyzed the data, we were careful not to generalize the industry as a whole without accounting for potential sampling bias. We addressed this by looking at groups …

{ object.primary_image.title }}

We can end the wars over the office thermostat by giving workers more options for temperature autonomy. Every year as summer approaches, there is a new wave of articles about “comfort wars”—between bosses and workers, men and women, Americans and Europeans, cold workouts and hot yoga. The New York Times covered the topic last year and concluded with a lesson from the University of California, Berkeley: “It appears that first world discomfort is a learned behavior.” But where is this behavior learned? Who decides what is comfortable? Read Full Story
