This new affordable housing project in the Bronx has its own hip-hop museum

{ object.primary_image.title }}

Bronx Point, which recently won an award for Excellence in Design from the New York City Public Design Commission, points to a new kind of mixed-use housing development: one that is designed with the neighborhood’s specific needs in mind. On the edge of the Harlem River in the Bronx, a long-vacant piece of land owned by the city of New York is about to undergo a dramatic transformation. Early next year, construction will begin on a project that will turn this dirt lot into 542 units of permanently affordable housing, a new public park, community and retail spaces, and a museum dedicated to the history of hip-hop. This Toronto development replicates suburban living in a high-rise

{ object.primary_image.title }}

Toronto’s CityPlace was designed for young professionals. Those professionals grew up and had families—and now they have new needs. When Toronto’s CityPlace development was planned in the 1980s, the 30-building condo project near the city’s downtown had a specific kind of tenant in mind: young professionals willing to forgo space for proximity to the jobs and action in the center of the city. But as the last of the project’s high-rises and condos near completion, the roughly 18,000 people living in them are defying expectations. CityPlace has unexpectedly become home to hundreds of families. Read Full Story

Charlotte may have cracked the code on affordable housing. Here’s how

{ object.primary_image.title }}

A $58 million fund is being used to buy up affordable buildings and keep the rents low. The Lake Mist apartment complex in Charlotte was in danger, and so were its residents. A cluster of two story brick-and-tan buildings near a busy commercial corridor, the 144-unit complex was one of a dwindling number of rental options available to residents making less than the area’s median income. It’s not a public housing development or an official affordable housing project, but Lake Mist, with rents starting around $600 per month, is, de facto, part of Charlotte’s affordable housing stock. But its rents weren’t likely to stay so low for long, and real estate investor Mark Ethridge wanted to do something about it. Read Full Story

As office buildings empty out, here’s one creative use for all of that space

{ object.primary_image.title }}

Office buildings can be turned into schools pretty easily, as one project in the Bay Area shows. Offices around the U.S. are sitting empty, as the pandemic has forced many employees to work from home. Some of these offices will eventually come back to life, but others may lay fallow indefinitely. But, as one project in California shows, they don’t have to fall completely out of use. A formerly vacant office building there has been converted into a new school. Read Full Story

{ object.primary_image.title }}

Do you want more organic search traffic to your site? I’m willing to bet the answer is yes – we all do! Organic search traffic is critical for growing your website and business. Some research claims around 53% of your site’s traffic can be attributed to organic search. But the stats don’t matter much if your site doesn’t show up in the search results at all. How do you get your new site or blog indexed by Google, Bing, and other search engines? Well, you’ve got two choices. You can take the “tortoise” approach – just sit back and wait for it to happen naturally, but this can take weeks or months. (Trust me, I’ve been there before – not fun.) Or you can make it happen now, giving you more time and energy to put towards increasing your conversion rate , improving your social presence — and, of course, …
